The Old Testament speaks of the Messiah polling his beard, which meant shaved. The NT is not specific but I think a man looks better without facial hair. There is also a Scripture, I have to look, that says that the Messiah was clean shaven.
Actually Isaiah was saying that his beard was pulled (or plucked) by the ones torturing him. There is NO scripture that says the messiah was clean shaven. In fact, most of the men of God in the Bible including the Messiah had beards.
Holiness churches in the 1960s and 1970s thought beards were too worldly, too “hippie-like.” My parents and church thought I had gone liberal when I went off to college in 1969 and grew a beard.
It depends on which verse in the bible one chooses to look at. The apostle Paul says, “Men should have short hair.” The Nazerite vow says, “Men should not cut their hair or beards.”
This is one issue that is not cut and dry, such as murder. This is one of them debated issues such as speaking in tongues or capital punishment, in which, I believe, the bible gives conflicting information.
Moody Bible Insittute forbids facial hair, but in obby of thier main building is a portrait of their founder, whose beard went down past his breastbone LOL
I have never seen IT in the Bible. It teaches if a man have long hair hair it’s a shame 1 st Corinthians 11:14. Says , Does not even nature itself teach you, that if a man have long hair. It is a shame unto him. (15) But if a woman have long hair , it is a glory to her , for her hair is given her for a covering.
The bible says they plucked out Jesus’ beard! Come on people, wake up and find other issues that are more important, like helping reach souls for Christ!
This Is How It Is—Its Not A Sin Either Way! Its What Ever The Men Desire To Do! Just Like The Women Folks: If U Want To Wear A Head Covering “Aka” Scarf? Then Do It: Otherwise Tje Head Covering Mentioned In The Bible Is A Womans Hair: Because A Womans Hair Is Her Glory! If A Man Wants A Beard Then Go For It! If Not; Then Shave! People Wants To Control Peoples Every Move So Badly That They Strain At A Knat And Swallow A Camel! They Cause The People To Wear “Spiritual Shackles”! Burdens! When People Come To God: Most Times Its A Slow Change To The New Found Walk! Dress Code; Turning From Sin Etc. But The More Important Matters Are ((Salvation))! My Recommendation Is ((The Authorized King James Bible))! Its The True Bible!! Seemingly Most Men In The Bible Wore Beards And Mustaches? But They Didnt Have The Modern Day Shave Equipment Then Like We Do Now! Just Like The Apparell//Clothes Was Different Back Then Than Now! But Holiness Is The Same Yesterday-Today And Forever! Because God Himself Created It All!
If You Follow The Authorized King James Bible: You Cant Lose! If You Truly Seek Gods Face: Prayers And Reading Gods Word! You Will Get Your Answers! I Dont Usually Say Much! But People Needs To Know! And Facebook Is An Opportunity To Do Sharing Gods Work!
It is pointless to argue such nonsense. If a man wants to have a beard then fine! If a man wants to be clean shaven then fine! Neither way defines spirituality in any way.
There is no biblical mandate not any scripture that can be used to prove the idea that having a beard is wrong. Jesus DID have a beard. To say that he did not is to reject both scriptural and historical accounts. I do like the idea of being clean shaven. I think it looks clean cut and sophisticated. I also like a well kept beard, I believe they can also look sophisticated. However, both of those positions are based on social and cultural norms, not on biblical precept. Have a bears, don’t have a bears, its your choice, but I do admonish people to be clean and well manicured.
My wife’s great great grandfather, Hans Langseth, grew what has been call, according to Guinness, the world’s longest beard at 17.5 feet. It’s at the Smithsonian in DC and displayed there from time to time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Langseth
I hadn’t ever looked up on things. I don’t know if I read it or if it’s one of those hear says. That Christ shaved faith a razor. I don’t know about the other comments.
Troy Day I believe modern theology has turned to a walk between Christian liberty and Law. I see no biblical support and any verses regarding so would be just as relevant as circumcision
The Old Testament speaks of the Messiah pulling his beard, which meant shaved. The NT is not specific but I think a man looks better without facial hair. There is also a Scripture, I have to look, that says that the Messiah was clean shaven.

Kyle Williams Most likely. Jesus was a Jew. Jewish men in the 1st C wore beards as a sign of their adult manhood. In their culture it was considered shameful for a man’s beard to be shaved. The Greeks/Romans had a different view, so for a Jewish man to be shaved was also considered trying to be like a Gentile. And that is one thing Jesus WASN’T accused of by his Jewish critics. ?
Christopher Lance Dart I understand that.. I was referring to the churches that teach this extra biblical teachings as pharisees. Not literal pharisees but the same spirit ya know
Ray E Horton nobody alive does all of us are sinners but the post asked if beards were against the bible which the only thing mentioned about beards in the bible is in leviticus I cant find any other verses that relate to the bible
Ray E Horton Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (NIV, Matthew 5:17–18)
This happens when people put their doctrines, personal beliefs and their preachers above God, because they’re lazy to study the Bible by themselves and believe every kind of absurd and ridiculous doctrines.
No, not the book of Romans, but the Roman soldiers who plucked Jesus’ beard…

Read About beards in the Old Testament …….2Sa_10:4 Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
2Sa_10:5 When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed: and the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.

Some churches need to start worrying about things that matter and quit watching the world go to hell while they are splitting hairs over stupid things like this.
And we wonder why the lost shake their heads and realize that in so many ways the modern day church is irrelevant and useless!
beards are totally biblical
The early Apostolic era churches actually taught it was sinful for a man to shave his face.
I have never seen it in the Bible.
I knew I should’ve protested duck dynasty
The Old Testament speaks of the Messiah polling his beard, which meant shaved. The NT is not specific but I think a man looks better without facial hair. There is also a Scripture, I have to look, that says that the Messiah was clean shaven.

no it is not biblical
For men or women?
Not biblical. More man made religion
Only churches that have rules not based in scripture would teach that. I call those Cults.
Leviticus 19 v 27 pretty much biblical to me.
613 laws the church’s only teach white Jesus and 10 commandments.
I hope you people study to show thy self approved and not rely on not 501c3 church

No, it’s stupid.
16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
1 Corinthians 11:16 | KJV
What does Christ say about who the true church is?
The god of the Bible is only dealing with his chosen people
The 12 tribes of Israel not the heathens. It’s states very clear not to go the way of the heathens. You people can shave not I.

Well in every paining and picture I’ve seen Jesus had a beard… so I’d say no if it were wrong God would not have given man the ability to grow one
The bible says they plucked out Jesus’ beard! Come on people, wake up and find other issues that are more important, like helping reach souls for Christ!
Just because it was associated with hippie rebellion in the 60s and 70s. The thought that we are to be “Clean” shaven. It is a doctrine of men.

No. The Jewish men of Bible times felt it was a shame for a man not to have a beard
The whole question is sort of silly, unless you are into legalism. Beards and outward appearance mean nothing. God looks at the heart.
It is pointless to argue such nonsense. If a man wants to have a beard then fine! If a man wants to be clean shaven then fine! Neither way defines spirituality in any way.
THAT’S STUPID! JESUS HAD A BEARD!! DONT TRY TO ARGUE WITH ME!
We should be preaching CHRIST CRUCIFIED and seeing souls saved instead of churches argueing weather beards are right or wrong!
Of course not. Beards are a fashion of litle concern to the Lord.
Ya fools don’t know scripture
Beards were worn in the bible days they are nice if well groomed & no it is not wrong !!
It’s not wrong, Jesus/Yeshua in your heart is what’s important, stuff like that is legalistic religion
The bible never addresses facial hair as sin. Many churches have a dress code as part of their identity and mission to the world.
Any church that wants to spend precious time teaching on beards, is a GREAT CHURCH TO LEAVE immediately.
Jesus wore a beard that they plucked out on route to the cross. We need to grow-up spiritually
BIG thanks to all participants – yall are just GREAT
This post was a social media experiment on how evangelicals assume things and fire up the commenting guns.:)
This did not seem very good
Jesus had a beard. But then He walked everywhere He went…
Belonging to here is NOT very good no pastors just racists and people fighting I will leave but thank you
God will judge your heart thats it move on to more important things in life
God designed men to have beards.
NO! said the bearded man!
Not even reading comments these churchs obviously don’t read the Bible.
Jaysen Wolf racists? How do you know theres no Pastors?
Not by beard along…
shaved heads are an abomination too
No
In a word….NO…!
I think All bearded women should be banded from the choir!

If you can grow it, show it!
But don’t rant on those who can’t!
I once grew a long beard. All was well til someone asked me if I slept with it out or under the covers. Lost a lot of sleep trying to find out.
Doesn’t look bad. Looks like he kept it well.
Can you imagine seeing him riding a motorcycle?
I can’t grow any facial hair. Last week, I tried on my chin and looked like a billy goat.
It’s wrong only cause can’t grow my out. Mine has been the same length for 7 yrs lol
It is fine to have a beard. If we wanted to be legalistic against it, we should be asking if we are allowed to shave our sideburns.
NO
Wow. Pentecostals are really running out of material these days!
Some people will argue with anything. It was a joke post!!!! Come on People! GROW UP! Ludicrous holier than thou with no sense of humor.
No it’s a man made law
Jesus had a beard and He is our example. Now that is biblical!
Psalms 133:1 “BEARD”
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil upon the head,Running down on the beard,
“THE BEARD” of Aaron,
I heard men with homosexual tendencies who marry and have families to hide it call their families beards.

I A Sinner Away, If I Grow, or if I stay.
oh now wait a minute Joe Absher Les Snowden
You’re on your redirect limit for the week . no thanks .
Seriously!??
do you mean for men or women?
I can hear the echoes of my father now “don’t become one of those fat bearded Baptist”
but there is some Biblical support, no?
Troy Day I believe modern theology has turned to a walk between Christian liberty and Law. I see no biblical support and any verses regarding so would be just as relevant as circumcision
Mike Partyka The early Apostolic era churches actually taught it was sinful for a man to shave his face.

Best advice os found in God’s word..
2 Timothy 2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
so the Nazarenes were foolish? – OK
Troy Day the scrioture says foolish questions.. read in context.
What should be focused on is the winning of lost souls and seeing broken lives restored

TRUE
Ungodly legalists!
I am telling you just like that Lenny 🙂
Troy Day ???
Ray E Horton has he shaved his beard yet?
Troy Day Who Lenny! Why should he? He has had it the nearly 50 years that I have known him.
Ray E Horton time for a change maybe?
Troy Day Not my business, nor yours.
The Lord Jesus had a beard! These people would call Our great God and Savior a heathen and throw Him out.. PHARISEES!
you dont really have BIBLE for that except Isiah 🙂
Troy Day so because there’s only one passage dealing with the matter we can discount the scripture as false?
Kyle Williams there is NOT NT passage defending drinking preachers – NOT even one
Troy Day who’s a drinking preacher
Kyle Williams the ones who social drink on Sat eve and then get up Sunday morning trying to preach with NO power left in em
Troy Day I understand that.. but I thought this was the facial hair post lol
Kyle Williams got him lol

Why do you post such posts?
Leviticus 19:27 Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard
are you a Levitt? Are you under OT? Are you a Christian ?
Troy Day what does that matter it is in the holy bible wich is true for all Christians no matter their faith.
Slater Haws Nonsense! Do you keep the over 600 laws? Jesus put them to rest. We now have the New Covenant in His blood.
Ray E Horton nobody alive does all of us are sinners but the post asked if beards were against the bible which the only thing mentioned about beards in the bible is in leviticus I cant find any other verses that relate to the bible

Slater Haws And, that is exactly what happened. Jesus fulfilled the law. Now it isn’t laws but Jesus’ law of love that keeps us from doing wrong.
Ray E Horton but Lenny still needs to groom ]
Troy Day Come on, Troy! Not your business. He’s fine.
This happens when people put their doctrines, personal beliefs and their preachers above God, because they’re lazy to study the Bible by themselves and believe every kind of absurd and ridiculous doctrines.
grow a beard – save a life 🙂
Not for men!
Yes, it is . . . as long as it is only applied to the women of the church.
Randy Patterson
Definitely not a salvation issue. Grow it as long as you want
In the book of Isaiah it reads that jesus had a beard and the romans pluck it out.
the book of Isiah mentions Romans?
No, not the book of Romans, but the Roman soldiers who plucked Jesus’ beard…
Isaiah 50:6 AMP
I turned My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not hide My face from insults and spitting.
Ridiculous. If man is not to grow facial hair, then why do we have it.
for the same reason women have it on their legs
Troy Day I have a beard and I have for many years.
Evangelist Mark Kearns most women dont like that
Troy Day I am Sorry you feel beards are wrong.
Evangelist Mark Kearns on women mainly
Troy Day women don’t usually look good in beards
Troy Day I’m sure that women didn’t shave either. There was no Venus shaver from Gellet.
who can tell with any certainty
Blocked beard is prohibited in the OT. BUT I don’t recollect reading anything in the NT
I’ve never heard of it being wrong.
O course not, because it isn’t. The O.P. is really meaningless and silly. I suppose there might be legalists out there who believe otherwise, but they need to discover Jesus and who He really is.
some churches DO teach that you know
Troy Day yes but not from scripture
Jesus had a beard.
NT verse for that pls
Troy Day – I had read in translation that Isaiah prophesied that Jesus had some of his beard pulled out. But when I looked at Isaiah in Ellenisti (miscalled Greek) I found no mention of a beard in chapter 5, verse 6. — In the NT Jesus does say that he came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. I’m a Blood washed Born again spirit filled Pastor with a beard ?
Only immaturity and biblical error would think or teach anything ignorant like that.
exactly! I do not think these people care about context.

On any kind of biblical foundation, that’s false.. because the word of God does not teach such a doctrine.
Kyle Williams This is TRUE Some people really believe that and practice it What do you believe ?
Troy Day I believe that any pastor that preaches a doctrine that is not supported by the word of God needs to go thru repentance from dead works and forsake his own religious tradition and get back to the bible.
Kyle Williams What do you believe in relation to OP – some churches DO preach that you know
Troy Day yes sir they do. Mostly so called “apostolic organizations.”Namely the UPC. Several of the “holiness standards” they impose on their congregants are just downright unscriptural and have to do with the opinions of modern day pharisees, who are in leadership. Opinions such as this one are pushed to the point where the people in these religious systems begin to imagine these are the laws of God and not the Bylaws of a Man-centric hierarchy.

What churches?…name them!
Nick Quient ok, I thought the last one was bad. But now i think i need to repent.
what you say here Robert Cox
The Non-Beard Church of Dakota
also the non-long haired one is good too
Indeed, indeed, terrible things these beards – need to show them up before whole congregation!
Troy Day the upc aslo preaches against long hair on men and cutting of a a womans hair
Have faced the UPC who concentrate on the outward appearance rather than the heart!
David P Griffiths me too.
The Leviticus passage in context relates not to this
Women with beards are not permitted!
and I would strongly advise Kyle Williams
Troy Day that I wouldn’t disagree with.. a woman attempting to grow a beard would probably not enter a church anyhow. Lol
Oh dear – but we must consider the type of beard – diversity is very important!
Nonsense. Where is thescripture?
William DeArteaga Yes, they are wasting time on a silly distraction from the things of God.
Read About beards in the Old Testament …….2Sa_10:4 Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

I still think this is SO true
Troy Day I do not read anything in the Bible that wearing a beard os wrong. I think that we should focus on winnimg the lost to Christ.
JW Stansell but it is SO true dont you think
No
this is SO true
