Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona says she has switched her registration to independent. The first-term senator says she doesn’t plan to caucus with Republicans, ensuring Democrats retain their narrow voting majority in the Senate.

Brittney Griner returned to the United States early Friday after being detained nearly 10 months in Russia. The deal announced Thursday that saw Griner exchanged for notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout. Imprisoned former marine and corporate security executive Paul Whelan was not a part of the exchange.
