They’re In: Lady Flames soccer gains at-large bid to National Tournament

After another successful year for Chris Hennessey and the Lady Flames, they have earned a trip to the NCAA National Tournament, the program’s seventh National Tournament appearance since joining the Division-II ranks.

The NCAA selection committee gave the program the sixth seed in the south region, setting up a match with third-seed West Florida for the third time this season. In the first match, West Florida defeated Lee 1-0.

The Lady Flames beat West Florida on Friday after freshman Alaysia Nye scored the winner in the 87th minute.

After the exciting semi-finals victory, Lee suffered a setback in the Gulf South Championship game to Mississippi College.

The matchup with the Argonauts of West Florida will be the 15th meeting in the history of the rivalry. The Lady Flames hold a 7-5-2 record in the series.

The programs have matched up just twice in the NCAA National Tournament — in 2015, Lee was victorious. In a rematch in the 2017 tournament, West Florida sent Lee home on penalty kicks.

Historically, the Lady Flames and Lady Argonauts have played match-ups for the ages. It is always a battle between elite coaching and elite defense; you should expect no less this go-round.

They’ll kick-off at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Pensacola, Florida.
