A Convergence of Divergence :: By Dave Hubley
(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who do not have Jesus in their life and are looking for peace and a way to better understand the present-day insanity and confusion.)
It seems that in the past several months, I have noticed a rapidly accelerating convergence of divergence.
Let me explain.
As the mid-term elections (assuming they will actually occur) approach, there has been an exponential rise in the frenetic and illogical (from the standpoint of rational human behavior) conduct of those who are, for lack of better terminology, “invested in this world system.”
At the same time, there is a discernible increase of “spiritual” consciousness, or perhaps it is appropriately termed awareness, on the part of many people.
I placed quotation marks around “spiritual” as I believe there are two basic definitions/implications of that word, and they are both currently represented as well.
- One being [Spiritual], as in the influence of the Holy Spirit of God.
- The other being, well, every false and deceiving spirit at work within this “world system.” In other words, everything else.
At the final count, there are really only two.
Let me clarify my meaning of them.
- The Holy Spirit being the sole God of Creation, pure Holiness, Light and Life.
- The other being of pure evil and the purveyor of lies, deceit and death.
Both of these “presences,” if you will, seem to be increasing and converging on the entire world population at this point in history like never before. They are diametrically opposed to each other, and only those reborn of the true Spirit of God can discern the differences between them in a positive light.
For everyone else, there is just an arbitrary reference to “a god,” the force, Gaia, etc. The list is vast. The unsaved sense something they do not quite grasp but are too much a part of this world to even want to understand it.
In the current climate of world chaos, it could be that the “list” could be even more diabolical:
“We do not want another committee; we have too many already. What we want is a man of sufficient stature to hold the allegiance of all people, and to lift us out of the economic morass into which we are sinking. Send us such a man, and be he god or devil, we will receive him.” – Paul-Henri Spaak
The saddest part is that it could be the calling of the Holy Spirit on them to repent, but most can’t comprehend it, and they may be too hard of heart to be able to respond to Him.
To be clear, this article is not about the political season, elections, or lack of them. In this writer’s opinion, there is not one scintilla of evidence to support placing any hope or confidence in human government or leadership regardless of who thinks they are “at the helm.”
Perhaps I am being overly sensitive to the signs of the times. Perhaps I am not.
Jesus’ warning to the religious leaders of His day was a warning about their failure to be cognizant of the conditions surrounding His first appearing. “Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” (Luke 12:56).
We have likewise been made aware by “the signs of the times.”
“Jesus answered, ‘See to it that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains” (Matthew 24:4-8).
“See, I have told you in advance” (Matthew 24:25).
Paul’s warning list of “end of the age” human characteristics is astoundingly accurate, but that is hardly a surprise; after all, he wrote under the influence and with the guidance of the Spirit of God. It only makes sense.
“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these” (2 Tim 3:1-5).
The fact that these five verses above have been quoted in so many writings and articles of late is proof in itself that they are applicable to the current state of human behavior. These characteristics have become institutionalized.
They have become very apparent to anyone who is paying attention, for whatever their reasons.
Unsaved people see them, feel them, sense them, and are affected by them even if they do not know where to look for answers.
Those who have received Jesus Christ as their Savior are under the effects of these characteristics that are so prevalent in the world as well. Very sadly, many of our beloved brothers and sisters aren’t really sure where to look either.
In far too many cases, churches offer no help as most have taken the “easy way out” and don’t go anywhere near these verses of predictive prophesy even though, right now, they are “in the face” of everyone, saved or unsaved.
In terms of the Churches in the present day, Jesus had John write the seven letters to the seven churches in order to wake them up, but it is clear that most will continue to deteriorate and abdicate their clear responsibilities toward their own flocks.
Now to the crux of this article.
As the Word of God has made clear throughout the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, there is a final confrontation (defined in its simplest form) between Good and evil that is converging on the world.
It is a convergence of two spiritual forces that could not be more diverse.
- On the one hand, El Shaddai; God Almighty.
- On the other, evil, pure undistilled and vicious.
There can only be one outcome as the evil has only been allowed to exist that the salvation of human souls could be accomplished. Human souls who have been granted the right to choose God or reject Him.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live” (Deuteronomy 30:19) (Emphasis added by me.)
I have long believed and frequently said that while the Old Testament was written to the Jewish people, it is important to understand that the Lord had the entirety of the scriptures (including the New Testament) written, knowing that all His creation would still be reading it even up to the present time. Therefore, all the scriptures have application and give direction to every individual who would ever live.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim 3:16). (Emphasis added by me.)
“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure’” (Isaiah 46:9-10).
The end of human history as we know it, I believe, is close on us. It’s time to pick sides.
For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life:
You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior.
It requires that you come before God on His terms.
And, what are His terms according to His Word?
- Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
- Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
- That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
- To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
- Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross.
- To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.
God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.
- No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
- No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
- Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.
If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.
John 5:24: “Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life.”
There are no answers, and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.
The answers are in the Word of God—the Bible. If you ask God with all your heart, He will hear you.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
