Harris Picks Walz, Venezuelan Election Drama, and Japan Stocks Recover #shorts

AP reports that Vice President Kamala Harris has picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to be her running mate on Tuesday. Harris hopes to shore up her campaign’s standing across the upper Midwest, a critical region in presidential politics that often serves as a buffer for Democrats seeking the White House.

Venezuela’s top prosecutor has announced a criminal investigation against the opposition’s presidential candidate Edmundo González after their call on the armed forces to abandon their support for President Nicolás Maduro. Authorities have declared Maduro the victor in last Sunday’s election but have yet to produce voting tallies to prove he won.

And a day after it set markets tumbling in Europe and on Wall Street, Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index soared nearly 11% early Tuesday.
