Former President Donald Trump will address the final night of the Republican Convention Thursday, his first speech since the attempt on his life Saturday. His running mate, J.D. Vance, cited his “hillbilly” roots in a speech Wednesday night, making a direct appeal to Rust Belt voters.
President Joe Biden was sidelined with COVID Wednesday, as Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff joined the ranks of those calling on him to back out of the 2024 race. Multiple reports indicated Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also advised him to step aside.
And Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has attended a hearing behind closed doors in his trial in Russia on espionage charges that he, his employer and the U.S. government vehemently deny. Gershkovich is the first Western journalist arrested on espionage charges in post-Soviet Russia.
